age and journaling history

Hello! Because I'm curious, how old are you and how long have you been journaling?

I'm 23 and I've been at it (on and off) since I was 13. So about ten years. :)

I'm older that dirt and i don't know how old I was when I started or why.
I remember making my own books when I was in high school.
I journaled regularly when I was in college.
With gaps when I was in my 20's.
With fidelity once I became a mother.

The more interesting question is - why?
Why do we journal?
For some people it is a compulsion.
Other people never do.
Why?

interesting with the question of why, because it's something i haven't ever thought about.

i guess that i write journals because it's a way of expressing myself, but not necessarily wanting to express it to an audience or to another person.

i have been writing, whether fiction, journals, poetry, etc., (and needing to write in some form) for as long as i can remember.

how long have you been journaling?
I started keeping a diary since 1968, which makes 45 years. I am 61 years old.

I think I've been journaling on and off since I was about 11 or 12, that would be about 15 years now.

I'm 32, and the oldest journal I have is from when I was 8 years old.

But my serious journaling unfortunately didn't start until 2008. I have written /something/ everyday since January of '08. So that was when I was 26, about to turn 27.

I'm 40 and I've been keeping a diary since I was about 10 years old. I got into serious "journaling" at about age 26 or so? So a long time. :)

I'm 37 and I've been journaling on and off since I was 13. I did it very regularly until I was ca. 24, then had a long break and re-started journaling again last year, at the age of 36.

I have journaled on and off my whole life... My oldest is from 7-8 yrs old.

I have been journaling consistently since 2005... It's getting harder now with a very active toddler but I'm still writing. :)

I started when I was 7, and am 32 now, so about 25 years? Holy cow..

It's been off and on though. I'm bad at doing anything DAILY. I've still yet to do a completely successful YEAR of embodiment. But damn I love journaling and talking about it, so I'm still here. :)

I'm 33 and have been journalling since gradeschool! Wow, I am old!
Since I moved to the U.S.A., I've amassed three finished writing journals, and have one unfinished art journal, one unfinished Simple Diary journal, and about two art journals that I've just started.

Fifty, and I've been keeping a regular journal I was about twenty-two, so twenty-eight, going on twenty-nine years. (Sheesh.)

I'm 34 and have been journaling since I was twelve or so. I remember getting my first journal (one of those page per day kinds with a lock) and I used it, but know I ripped a bunch of pages out, so might have been ten or eleven. I have the journals from age 14 on.

I'm 22. I've been keeping scrapbooks, diaries and the like for ages* on-and-off. Embodiment has been the only instance where I've continuously journalled.

(* - even when I was too young to write properly, my mum used to pencil the words out for me, and I remember tracing over them as best I could in felt tip - not sure if they count, though! I remember keeping my first 'proper' written diary when I was about eight.)

I'm 26 and I've been journaling since February 2009, when I was 22. So, 4.5 years and 22.5 volumes so far!

I wish I had been journaling my whole life!

I'm 54, been at it since about 1989 or '90, though it was a bit sporadic till the about 1995. I've been a daily "journallist" since at least 1997. Couldn't live without it.

I'm 30 and have been journaling since I was 11, which means I've been journaling for about 19 years. I'm really looking forward to my 20th anniversary next year, though I have no idea yet how I'll celebrate it.
