community maintenance: Spring Cleaning

Way back in December, I posted a message in the mod community for embodiment but LJ has been kind of sleepy overall what with all the other places on the internet one can go and real life happenings, too. Since I didn't receive a response there, I figured I'd overstep and bring up the subject here for the community.

Right now, this is what we have listed for the embodiment community:

Maintainers
arctic_wolf4025, black_kitten, elbereth, goldmourn, writewrongs

Moderators
arantia, crookedfingers, dragonfly52585, ellison, elmiee, herselfonline, kaishin108, kinston, pinska, sarahrose, savannahjan

I was thinking that we probably don't need this many people. Well, we would if the community was a LOT more active but since it isn't (and some of these people have been quite absent this past year, though many of us aren't active on LJ like we used to be) I was thinking perhaps we could pare the list down a bit?

What should we do? Any thoughts or suggestions?
---

So, embodiment, I ask you, should we decrease the number of Moderators? If so, who do you want to stay and who do you think should go? If you are one of the moderators and would like off the list or kept on the list, please speak up!

The community has been consistently active enough (considering how LJ is these days) so I don't think it's too big of a deal either way but I'm curious what the community thinks.

edited to add: 22 March 2014 @ 3:21pm The mod community was for the team of maintainers, created during a tumultuous time of change in this community. I know it sounds weird because it's called a mod community but it was for maintainers only with the the idea being that the moderators were going to be changed every year or so (if they wanted to be - this also was to take into account that some people have left LJ and may not want to be involved anymore, ya know?) and were more for keeping the community active and helping out in general. Maintainers would be for the super serious issues & whatnot - which, as someone pointed out, the community has been able to pretty much moderate itself very well.

To answer another question:
The difference between a maintainer and a moderator can be read if you click on each one, linked from LiveJournal FAQ.

There's an Embodiment mod community? *laugh* I didn't know that. :)

I'm good with how things are.

I didn't know, either. :)

Edit: I didn't know there was a mod community, either.

I'm ok with how things are. If you desperately want to get rid of some mods I suppose I'll step down- it doesn't really matter since there isn't much work that mods need to do around here.

I've been trying to post more frequently, but that is something I plan to keep doing whether or not I am a mod. I hope others step up and most more frequently as well. I'd love to see more pictures of journals, discussion, flip throughs, etc., etc.

Lately I've been really active in the journaling community over on YT, which is much more active than here. Maybe we should all pack up our keyboards and break out our cameras instead. :)

I love journal and diary vlogs and it's great to see them posted on here. I've shared a few that I found and posted them here in the past.

No, not desperate to get rid of any mods but it's been over a year or so and I didn't know if anyone wanted to be dropped off the list or not. No, it would not make sense to take someone who is active in the community off of the moderator list, such as yourself.

Also what's the difference between a maintainer and a mod?

I've added that information to the bottom of the post as an edit - hope that helps to clarify!

I'm okay either way! It seems to self-mod itself, really.

mod community
I did not know there was a LJ mod community. What is a mod community? I think Embodiment is as active as is possible in this world of so much to do or could be done.

Re: mod community
It's for the maintainers to deal with the background issues that might occur. It was used most during the transition of the community awhile back.

I have good intentions of commenting here and I do try. If I am on the moderators list and you want to take me off, please do :-)
I will still try to participate!

Hey, I am ok with being removed as a mod, as it has been close to a year now since the last time I even commented, let alone posted content. I really don't know why, but I kinda just let everything go in regards to livejournal. Maybe sometime in the future I'll get involved again!

Hope y'all are doing well!

Hi there. I know this is an old post, but I had a question. I noticed that the cumbersome, but awesome/important, task of memory-ing the entries seems to have lapsed. I only checked my name, but the most recent post under my name was pretty old.

Is this job assigned to anyone in particular? Should we see if someone wants to volunteer to be that person? I just really loved that feature of our community once we got it up and running.

I was the one who did that task when we restarted the community and I kept at it trying to put into memories every post - at the time, well over 6,000+ - and I did alright but life happened and so I've done it only here and there but with the intention that I'll have a night where I'll really go at it and return to every post that I can to make sure they're put into the memories. I have lapsed from time to time, yes. And I think there are some people who add themselves to the memories here & there as well.

It isn't assigned to anyone - it's just something I took upon myself when the group was taken back for the community again - something I thought would be useful or nice to have. I am going to do it again but people are welcome to add their posts to the memories of this group as they post, if they like too. As I said, I notice it from time to time when one is already done for me when I do go through the posts.

Sorry for lapsing - I still care! & I'm glad someone has found use of it.
