The rest is still unwritten..

So as most of you know all my life I have kept a journal. I go through spells where I write all the time then don't write much at all, etc. Generally though, I've journaled since I was 11 or so. I've wrote since August in this one! Just finished it up. I decided to go ahead and take some photos and let you see bits and pieces.

This is my first time really sharing my paper journal with anyone. Although, I'm not showing personal written entries so much as just some of the fun little tid bits in there! My journal is a mix of writing and "scrapbooking" (aka...stick in ANYTHING lol). Well, you'll see!

This particular journal wasn't anything too special at first. Just a random Walgreens find. Now it's tattered and well loved. I felt a deep ache finishing this one, it became like a best friend. Onto the photos!

Inside cover. I always write "the rest is still unwritten.." and then another part at the very end. It's my first and last thing written in each journal. A way of opening and closing chapters so to speak.

I do this on the very first page of every journal I have. It's my lazy index in a way. Just "at a glance" some of the important/fun events that took place through out the journal. I make it as I go. I usually only need the front and back of the page.

A card from my one of my best friend's, Sarah! (She posts in this community all the time, on lj she is known as sarahrose :) Also a photo from a very memorable night!

Example of randomosity. When a girl's gotta blot, a girl's gotta blot!

Sarah wrote an entry in my journal while we were at a park one evening!

My first pair of toms! I was pretty excited! (most comfy shoes EVER...they're a bit beaten up already but I love them dearly).

Day at six flags with Sarah, Leigh, and my Husband Damen!

All my journal's have at least one of these lol

Fortune :)

We went to the world's largest corn maze at Richardson Farm! Those are pieces of the corn stalk! Sarah got me the patch! :)

On the left is the actual paper I used while getting to each checkpoint and punching the holes out. You can see the photo of the real corn maze on the right :) It was SO big and so much fun. We did EVERY checkpoint! So we got a certificate!

Another card from Sarah! :)

Planning a trip to King Spa! (Korean spas..quite the experience!)

Butttt unfortunately a couple day's after the spa I got very very sick. Resulting in a week long trip to the hospital. I had a terrible case of phenomena, bronchitis, double ear infection, and a sinus infection. The phenomena is what got me.

This bits of a pop can-- was the most amazing heavenly thing I had tasted. I was DIEING for some pop. I had this one amazing nurse, Cindy, who brought me a baby can. I had to keep it in here lol I was so miserable that one small thing made me cry I was so happy. There's also a thing that was on my chest where I was hooked on a heart monitor (they thought I had a heart murmur for a while). The paper on the left is from flowers my mom and husband had delivered for me. I later put my hospital bracelet in here as well. Also, you can see my husband's visitor pass.

A sheet from a hospital magazine, along with some meal receipts lol

I was stuck in here on Halloween, and this was our "treat". PS..the apple cider tasted like straight up urine. Just sayin.

Some random photo's

View from my hospital room

my "wall of love" in the hospital room as well as bits to preserve <3

My balloons and a get well soon card from Sarah

Get well soon card from my MIL

The hospital menu I would call each day for my meals. Also was used as a fan during my many steroid induced hot flashes.

When I was in the hospital I had a little ephifany. See--I almost died. I was really bad, and it progressed quickly. Had a big wake up call/"what am I doing with my life" moment. I decided to go to College for Medical Assisting. Spoke with people there from my hospital bed lol So I looked into colleges. Within my first week back home I was registered for school..starting TOMORROW (January 8th!)

Books came in the mail!

American Girl trip with my friend Amanda.

My friend Mallory lost her battle to cancer, she was a phenomenal person.

Catching Fire with Sarah!

Drunken fun lol

My first debit card was closed down lol Wanted to save it since this one was from my first bank account. Had it for ages!

Odds and ends lol

LUSH haul in the city!

Decorated gingerbread houses with my Mom

Olive Garden mint wrapper from a lunch date with my Husband after Christmas shopping

LOL. This was the first journal I didn't do anything artistic in at all. I want to do a bit more scattered in the next one.

The night before orientation at school!

This was yesterday! Orientation day!

My last page...emotional for me! lol it's hard for me-- I get attached! I name all my journal's Alice. What got me started journaling was Harriet from the movie harriet the spy. What kept me journaling was Alice, from go ask alice. I'm weird, I don't know. Anyways, along with this is the last writing on the page beside it.

Back cover. I took a photo envelope and I used it as a little folder for stickers and paste ins and such. I will do that with all of them that don't come already with a folder for the future.

The new journal I forgot to take a photo of, but I promise I'll be back to share it with you when it too is complete.

Thanks for looking! :)

This would have been fun to read even if I didn't know you and wasn't in all the photos! ;-)

Thank you for sharing! Loved it. I smiled through all the pages of our memories!

Wow what a fun journal! Well, except for the almost-dying part but so awesome that it brought you to going back to school! I'm curious, how did you get those get well balloons to stick to the paper?

Just scotch glue stick believe it or not! Lol I was prepared to tape over if needed but they stuck in there well.

Wow! I would never have guessed glue stick, I use tacky glue and so far it makes everything stick... except those types of balloons (it just peels right off :( )! I'll try the glue stick.

Do you glue things in as things happen and then write or do you wait until you have time to sit and write and then glue your treasures in? I'm just curious :3

I set aside time each evening to write (or through the day if my schedule allows it lol). When I'm out and see things (like the fortune cookie things and such) I shove it in my wallet or a special place in my purse then stick it in my journal that night. The only time I journal things as it's happening right then and there is when I'm with Sarah lol sometimes we journal while we hang out :)

((Also I haven't had much luck with tacky glue but rubber cement works wonders and I like the scotch glue sticks too heh))

That's what I do with most things! I keep a fabric pencil pouch or a plastic sandwich bag to put things in so they stay safe when I'm out and about if they're things that I need to trim/ cut first or only want pieces of. How do you write in the last few pages when it gets that bulky? Currently I bend my book covers back and lay the single page I want to write/create on out so it's straight (but it sorta ruins the spine...) Sorry if I'm asking too many questions, I'm just curious about your creative methods :3

No worries! I love questions! hah :)

It got pretty difficult towards the end for sure. I just did my best. Some pages I had to bend and others I just kind of maneuvered my arm uncomfortably while holding the left side of the journal up so that the right side would lay flat. Luckily I really didn't have an issue until the last 15 or so pages.

I fucked up the spine in my current journal so badly that even e-6000 glue couldn't keep the chipboard of the cover in place, so frustrating. I definitely feel your pain there.

I like all the questions you are asking the original poster! Good questions, great work.

How did the glue stick work for you?! :)

Jan. 25th, 2014 08:34 am (UTC)
Not well at all, I kept getting chunks of the glue coming off the stick and in the end it didn't keep it on anyway. Guess me and glue stick weren't a good, eh, stick... :( However, I do enjoy trying out new things, so even though it failed it was fun to try!

yay! I hope you love it! It's made my journals easier to thumb through and remember what event/experience was in which journal.

I've been meaning to do an index for my last and current journal and forgot both times but my next journal I am going to do my best to leave a couple of blank pages at the beginning. THANK YOU for the reminder. And THANK YOU AGAIN for sharing your beautiful journal with all of us.

I just found this post - I missed a bunch early this year when I wasn't coming on LJ regularly.

I'm so glad I came to look at it because I LOVE your journal!!!! It's so great that you make them so full of photographs and various things being stuck in so the spine gets really cracked and the journal won't close - that's my fave kind of journal :) :) Can I ask why you have the folder at the back with stickers etc/why don't those go in the journal pages? Sorry if that's a silly question, I'm just curious!

Also you are super pretty and I adore your nails!

Jade :)

Oh also I meant to ask- how do you write in the journal when you've stuck things in? I always get discouraged from glueing in too wildly when I stick things in because then when I next lean on the paper it rips due to all the lumps and bumps, gah!

I do use them :) I transfer the stickers/folder from journal to journal. Some are holiday themed so they hang out until that time of year lol I had some of the fall one's on some pages in here. I tend to forget to use stickers so I go back and decorate randomly LOL

I actually haven't had the problem with the bumpy pages! I just use a minimal ammount and i prefer gluesticks to liquid glue (that's probably why lol) Everything in here was done with a regular glue stick :) I haven't had anything come off yet.

Thank you! I'm glad you liked it! :)
