random journal questions

I hope this is okay that I do this. It was suggested by my friend, kinston to do this. I made a random journal questions video tag about these 15 questions. 1.What is the longest entry you have ever written?
Maybe 3 pages?

2. What is the shortest?
One word or even just a heading. Sometimes I forget that I was going to write something.

3. What don't you put in your journals? (examples: pictures, receipts, etc.)
I don't have any pictures of my self because I don't take pictures that have me in them. I also don't really put receipts in unless it's something super meaningful.

4.What draws you to a journal? Is it the color, the design, the brand, or the pages?
The paper type because I use fountain pens. The construction of the journal.

5. Is there a brand you prefer/
Not really. I was a pretend Moleskine snob for a while but truthfully, they're not that great.

6. Pencil or Pen?
Pen: fountain pen. I love fountain pens but I only have the cheaper ones. I'm thinking of getting a TWSBI soon.

7. Blank pages or lined?
Both are fine.

8. Pocket or no pocket?
Pocket because it helps to hold small supplies.

9. Where do you usually get your journals?
Bookstores or stationary stores.

10. (knock on wood) What would happen to your journals if you passed away?
Probably just get thrown away. I don't think there's any historical value or even sentimental value in them. Maybe the pictures of my pets will get saved by my family.

11. What don't you write in your journals?
I don't really write quotes because I can't make them look nice.

12. Do you let anyone read your journals?
No and luckily no one has asked.

13. Do you take your journal everywhere?
I try to but I already carry a lot of stuff with me so it's quite heavy, my bag.

14. How do you start the very first entry in a new journal?
I just jump in and start rambling. It's not a beautiful beginning entry unlike many in the community.

15. How do you write the last?
Nothing special. Just the same rambling.

I struggle with #11 as well - getting quotes to look pretty. I'm always disappointed in myself. lol

Every story, every journal has historical value! Don't ever forget it! Your story is important! :-)

I've got a TWSBI Mini and I LOVE IT. I've got both a F and M nib, and if you like shading at all go for the M, they runs a bit fine compared w/ Lamy, etc.

4.What draws you to a journal? Is it the color, the design, the brand, or the pages?

Walmart - I hate Walmart but they are the only one who has this brand where I live

12. Do you let anyone read your journals?
no but I will sometimes read passages to my husband

13. Do you take your journal everywhere?

I love surveys! Good idea!

1.What is the longest entry you have ever written?
In one sitting, maybe 20 pages. About an event in my life in total, probably about 40-50, including the paste-ins and all.

2. What is the shortest?
A line or two - not uncommon.

3. What don't you put in your journals?
Nothing. I put it all in.

4.What draws you to a journal? Is it the color, the design, the brand, or the pages?
The size - it has to be standard notebook size or larger to accomodate the way I do paste-ins. Then, after that, the lines. They can't be too spacious. Then, the design. I love color! But I am less picky about the covers than the pages/size.

5. Is there a brand you prefer?
I really loooooooove Piccadilly large notebooks. I love Studio C notebooks too.

6. Pencil or Pen?
Pen. Never pencil.

7. Blank pages or lined?
Lined lined lined.

8. Pocket or no pocket?
Irrelevant.

9. Where do you usually get your journals?
Barnes & Noble carries my Piccadilly ones, and a bunch of other cute ones. Walmart's notebooks are great too.

10. (knock on wood) What would happen to your journals if you passed away?
They are intended to go to my descendants. I have none yet, so hopefully I will by the time I die. God willing!

11. What don't you write in your journals?
Nothing. I think the percentage of my life that is "off limits" is 0.0001%.

12. Do you let anyone read your journals?
No, but I will read from them aloud and take pictures of portions to share. Some parts are pure record keeping/memory keeping, so that's fine to share!

13. Do you take your journal everywhere?
They don't leave the house often, but sometimes.

14. How do you start the very first entry in a new journal?
The same as any other entries - date, day, time. Maybe a "Hello! New journal! Yay!" kind of sentence.

15. How do you write the last?
The same as other entries, mostly. I might wrap something up or do a couple pages of random stuff like stickers, quotes, etc.

01.What is the longest entry you have ever written? Probably about twenty-five pages of straight handwritten text. I have very small handwriting, so that's a fair amount.
02. What is the shortest? Three words.
03. What don't you put in your journals? (examples: pictures, receipts, etc.) I generally don't put in receipts or pictures, though I do put in tickets from concerts and show, and postcards I find interesting.
04.What draws you to a journal? Is it the color, the design, the brand, or the pages? Size, narrow ruling, fountain-pen-friendly paper, a pleasant-feeling cover.
05. Is there a brand you prefer? I used to love certain Xonex spirals, and narrow-ruled Letts of London perfect-bound books, and Maruman Boston Note spirals -- but all of those are no longer made. And then I had about six years of bespoke journals made by Tar-Calion, but he stopped making them, so now my search continues for the perfect book.
06. Pencil or Pen? Gel pens (0.25 nibs) for weather and weight, and fountain pens for text.
07. Blank pages or lined? Lined -- 0.5mm or narrower, ideally.
08. Pocket or no pocket? Pocket, but if there isn't one, I will glue an envelope on the inside back cover.
09. Where do you usually get your journals? Since I used the last bespoke one, I either go to a Japanese stationery store like Kinokuniya, for narrow-ruled, fountain-pen-friendly spiral notebooks, or I check Barnes & Noble and other bookstores for perfect-bound books. I've found some decent ones randomly (Winnable, Simplicity (which I've found at Rite Aid), and Markings from Staples), so I keep looking.
10. (knock on wood) What would happen to your journals if you passed away? My partners and my best friend know that they can read them, and then donate them to some library that keeps a collection of journals, as samples of what people wrote about in the second half of the twentieth century. I wish future historians luck in reading my tiny writing, particularly the years when I wrote in rose pink ink.
11. What don't you write in your journals? I write bits of everything: events, dreams, fantasies, love letters, hate mail, my weight, what I've eaten, poems I love, song lyrics, recipes....
12. Do you let anyone read your journals? I have a deal with my primary partners: if they really want to, they can read any of my journals except for the current one (if I'm carrying it with me on a daily basis, it's still too new and raw to share, unless I choose to share a particular passage). However, they can't ask me anything about what they've read, because it wasn't written for them. Thus far, none of them have read any of my journals except for pages I've shown them.
13. Do you take your journal everywhere? Yes. I've even written in it while in stirrups on the gynecologist's table.
14. How do you start the very first entry in a new journal? The way I do any other one. These days, it starts with a song quote, and then the weather predictions, sunrise and sunset times, moon phase, my weight, blood pressure, pulse, and temperature.
15. How do you write the last? Same as the first.

random questions
1.What is the longest entry you have ever written? Many years ago I would often sit and write 25 pages in one of my monthly diaries.
2. What is the shortest? Over the years in writing in a diary sometimes I have just written one short paragraph for an entry.
3. What don't you put in your journals? (examples: pictures, receipts, etc.) I do not put in my journals Art work.
4.What draws you to a journal? Is it the color, the design, the brand, or the pages? I use plain notebook paper and folders when writing in my diary. I like the freedom of folders. A bound journal I find restrictive.
5. Is there a brand you prefer/
6. Pencil or Pen? pen
7. Blank pages or lined? lined paper
8. Pocket or no pocket? folder pockets
9. Where do you usually get your journals? I buy my folders wherever I can find them the cheapest. I usually use two folders a month. In the past I have sometimes used four folders.
10. (knock on wood) What would happen to your journals if you passed away? I have instructed one of our sons to burn my diaries when I pass away.
11. What don't you write in your journals? I do not write about world events.
12. Do you let anyone read your journals? No I do not let anyone read my diaries. Basically what I write online is what I write in my paper diaries.
13. Do you take your journal everywhere? No I do not take my monthly journals outside the house. I will sometimes write a page someplace and when I get home put it in my folder.
14. How do you start the very first entry in a new journal? I usually start my first entry with the time and date.
15. How do you write the last? I usually write the last entry as I would the first.

1.What is the longest entry you have ever written?

Probably around 15-20 pages.

2. What is the shortest?

Gosh, I think it was a partial sentence. I always start a new page when I start a new entry - I used to have a "rule" that I needed to finish the page I was on, so there weren't gaps everywhere in the journal and that I needed to write at least 2 pages a day. I don't do that, anymore, but it was SO MUCH EASIER to write when I did it more often.

3. What don't you put in your journals? (examples: pictures, receipts, etc.)

My journals are mostly text with a photo or pressed flower, etc., here and there.

4.What draws you to a journal? Is it the color, the design, the brand, or the pages?

I've been buying the same journal since 2006 - 5x8 lined Moleskine books. The line spacing is just about perfect.

5. Is there a brand you prefer/

Yep, see above.

6. Pencil or Pen?

Pen, most definitely. (I hate pencils. It's a texture thing.) I like gel ink.

7. Blank pages or lined?

Lined.

8. Pocket or no pocket?

I don't care - given a choice, I'd say no pocket.

9. Where do you usually get your journals?

I buy them often at Dick Blick.

10. (knock on wood) What would happen to your journals if you passed away?

People would read them and find there isn't that much interesting in them. :)

11. What don't you write in your journals?

Purposely not writing about? Not much. I don't have an "off limits" list.

12. Do you let anyone read your journals?

A friend of mine in college and I used to read from each other's journal and we would make "guest entries" in the other's books. When I was writing more regularly, I would read bits and pieces to my husband, but yeah, I haven't had someone who I would just hand a book over to, if that makes sense.

13. Do you take your journal everywhere?

I write mostly in our bedroom - I do take my journal with me when I travel, so it gets more use when I'm on the road.

14. How do you start the very first entry in a new journal?

I'm normally pretty excited to start fresh. I'll typically start the journal with a quote and then flip the page and start an entry. Most of the time, the entry can go on for a while, just because of the buzz of starting new. :)

15. How do you write the last?

Sometimes the last entry will trail from one book into the next. There aren't rules when it comes to journalling, so I can do that. :) Sometimes, even mid-sentence.

1.What is the longest entry you have ever written?
Somewhere between 10 and 20 pages.

2. What is the shortest?
Three words.

3. What don't you put in your journals? (examples: pictures, receipts, etc.)
I hardly put anything in my journals except text. I’ll occasionally paste in a quote or an image that speaks to me, but that’s about it.

4.What draws you to a journal? Is it the color, the design, the brand, or the pages?
I normally use plain sketchbooks that fit my refillable journal cover, but when it comes to other journals, it’s mainly the cover. I can’t bond with a journal if I don’t like the cover. I also like journals that are about 5”x8” – much smaller and they feel cramped, much bigger and they feel unwieldy.

5. Is there a brand you prefer/
Cachet used to make some very attractive journals, but they seem to only do plain sketchbooks now. I used to use their sketchbooks in my journal cover, but they changed the height by a centimeter or two and now they no longer fit.

6. Pencil or Pen?
Pen. They don’t need to be sharpened, the end won’t break off, and it’s easier to read later.

7. Blank pages or lined?
Blank. Always always. My handwriting is horrible, and trying to fit it onto the lines is a distraction I don’t need when I’m trying to write.

8. Pocket or no pocket?
I don’t think I’ve ever had a journal with a pocket. Like I said, though, I don’t tend to put stuff in my journal, so I’d probably just use a pocket for notes reminding me of things I want to write about later. (Right now I use post-it notes stuck to the inside back cover.)

9. Where do you usually get your journals?
I order them directly from Oberon Design – they made my refillable journal cover, and their refills are a lot nicer than the sketchbooks I used to use (the ones that no longer fit).

10. (knock on wood) What would happen to your journals if you passed away?
You know, I’m honestly not sure. They would probably languish in storage unread for a long time; what would happen after that is anyone’s guess. It doesn’t really matter to me whether people read them after I’m dead, to be honest; I’m not writing them for anyone but myself, but I also won’t have any cause to be embarrassed by the contents when I’m not around anymore.

11. What don't you write in your journals?
There isn’t anything that is purposely off-limits in my journals. But I find it difficult to get myself to write about day-to-day events. I talk about feelings and go off on philosophical tangents instead.

12. Do you let anyone read your journals?
No. If I thought people were going to read them, I would get too self-conscious and start censoring myself. Besides, I doubt anyone but me would be interested in my rambling :)

13. Do you take your journal everywhere?
I tried to get myself into this habit once, before realizing that there wasn’t any point, because I only write in my journal when I’m at home. If I go on a trip, I’ll bring my journal and write in it, but I never get the urge to write when I’m waiting at the doctor’s office or what-have-you. So I just leave it at home.

14. How do you start the very first entry in a new journal?
The same as any other entry - I note down the date and then start writing.

15. How do you write the last?
Same as any other entry.

15 Journal Questions
1.What is the longest entry you have ever written?
I have no idea. Probably 30 pages, but that's rare.

2. What is the shortest?
A few words.

3. What don't you put in your journals?
I didn't used to glue much of anything in. This year I've glued in Skittles (Sour!) wrappers, Kid Cuisine pizza package, a piece of my prom dress, photos, and random stuff.

4.What draws you to a journal?
It has to be a hard cover. The paper has to be smooth enough- and thick enough. For years I used mostly just pocket Moleskines. I've branched out into other brands this year, but paper and it feeling sturdy and "nice" are big to me.

5. Is there a brand you prefer?
Moleskine, Barnes and Noble leather journals, Paperblanks, and Peter Pauper Press. Pretty much in that order.

6. Pencil or Pen?
Pen or marker.

7. Blank pages or lined?
Lined, though sometimes I like blank pages too.

8. Pocket or no pocket?
Pocket. I've started using the pockets more.

9. Where do you usually get your journals?
Barnes and Noble, Target, Walmart, Discount Stores (usually Eccolo journals there)

11. What don't you write in your journals?
I'm sure there are some topics that I avoid without realizing it, but this year I've written about a lot I had never written about before.

12. Do you let anyone read your journals?
I once started to let a friend friend one before I thought it would seem lame and took it back.

13. Do you take your journal everywhere?
No. I used to have a "purse journal" and vent at work/school, but don't do that much anymore.

14. How do you start the very first entry in a new journal?
An About Me page.

15. How do you write the last?
Same as always, unless I added in a signature page, movie page, or some other "special feature" when I first started that journal.
