How do you decorate your journal covers?

How do you decorate your covers?

I tie dyed a journal cover tonight. I haven't decorated my journals in the past year or so, instead preferring to buy pre-made ornate ones. The journal tonight had a design that I didn't like, but I liked the style of the journal and it was cheap. So, I fixed it. :) Yeah, the tye dye didn't turn out like a shirt, but at least it's colorful now. I used to add a lot of crap to my covers- stickers, souvenir pennies, rhinestones, and fabric patches.

Lately I've been doing things with washi tape and doing some button art on covers. There are a few photos in my prior entries on here. :)

I'm going to have to try the nail strips, it looked so pretty!
I tend to decorate my covers with whatever I have going on, so I can always tell just by the cover what the dominating thing was... Like Christmas, moving, etc... I'd love to see inside the one with the Mount Fuji patch, I love looking at travel journals!

I have used scrapbook papers gotten at Michaels when they are 4 to 6 for a dollar, cut and pasted them on the front. Also colored 'advertising' from the library--like when they announce their activities they print a notice on colored paper. I tear or cut them to make designs or pictures or whatever.

For the last 2 months covers I have been making stuff in the Gimp and printing them out, at a quarter per month. I have a super low budget, but I manage to get a lot of journaling in.

I have a journal someone gave me with a rather unfortunate cover, which I was just going to give to Goodwill or whatever, but have been thinking of maybe punching holes and running a needle with colored embroidery thread or whatever, maybe even sewing cloth on.

This is really inspiring, though, thanks.
